As one of the @Shanghaiwatchgang members, Jack Hu epitomizes the new wave of young Chinese collectors in the East who are private, possess the spending power, knowledge and passion that surpasses many seasoned collectors in the West. In this episode, Jack shares with us how his appreciation for art led to his liking for watches, his view on independents, and his knowledge on the much sought after Cartier CPCP series.

What began as a dorm room project during law school in 2014, Christian Zeron has built Theo and Harris to become one of the most recognized names when it comes to vintage wristwatch retail. In this episode he speaks about his journey, the pain of being labelled as a watch dealer, and finding his niche in the watch media. He also tells us a little about the consultancy space for major watch brands. It is the first time he says he truly feels proud of where he is at and he touches on the highs and lows of working with his mother.

The title pretty much says it all. It has been a crazy year for all of us and we would like to take this opportunity to reflect back on the last few months and thank all the wonderful guests we have had the pleasure to interview. We felt our first instalive session with Jaclyn earlier in 2020 was not enough to illustrate the depth and wisdom this young lady has to show so this is our part 2. In this episode, we talk about Jaclyn’s collecting philosophy, what drew her to Cartier and her appreciation for vintage pieces. We also discuss life as a Harvard student, her growing popularity on IG and the pieces she has added to her collection since we last spoke. We end with who inspires her in life and what she hopes to achieve in the future.

In the second part of our interview with Adrian, we discuss his own watch collecting journey and how it all started with an unexpected watch purchase from a fashion brand. With little knowledge, he combed the forums and found a community. He has since moved on to focus on Rolex- in particular, the Explorer 1. We also chat about his theory of the waiting list, his money beliefs, and what it means to be authentic on social media today.

In this episode, he speaks candidly about starting his watch journey as a “flipper”, his experiences working in the airline industry and what the future of air travel will become.

Founded by his great grandfather, the Hirsch watch strap brand has gone on to become a household name in the Swiss watch industry. Nikolaus himself is an entrepreneur, who has already made the Forbes 30 under 30 list and is relentlessly innovating Hirsch to become relevant in the digital age. With a history of entrepreneurship in the family, there is an innate grit and belief in oneself that Nikolaus possesses that we can all learn and appreciate.

#25 “You are inheriting someone else’s story or you are starting your own”- Cole Pennington, Editor for HODINKEE

In our second episode with Cole Pennington from HODINKEE, we look at how and what he collects, his fascination with watch engravings and his connection with wartime pieces. He shares with us some notable pieces, including a very special Accutron and “the watch that won the war”. Through Cole’s musings and collecting philosophy you get reminded that the best part of watch collecting is discovering the stories behind the pieces.

#24 “Bark and Jack was actually just an escape, a way to share a passion” – Adrian Barker, Creator of Bark & Jack

If there is one word to describe Adrian, it would be authentic. In this first episode of our two-part interview, Adrian shares with us how he went from working at Apple to creating his highly successful Youtube channel Bark & Jack. With a passion in equipment and cameras, Adrian taught himself to navigate the world of Youtube and its algorithm. Through his thoughts, it is clear he possesses many of the qualities that make a strong entrepreneur, from tenacity, competitiveness, and most importantly humility.  Despite the fame and opportunities that have come his way, he remains true to himself and how he wants to dress, create, and grow his channel.
